Eligibility

A student must finish the required high school courses in English, mathematics, physical and biological sciences, social sciences, and foreign languages in order to be able to apply and be considered for admission.

4 units of mathematics for college

Geometry 1
1 upper level maths course that requires algebra II All out-of-state students and students from North Carolina who do not attend a public school must have a fourth math course that is equivalent to one of the courses mentioned below or have it approved by the Office of Undergraduate Admissions. The fourth math unit for students enrolled in a public high school in North Carolina must be one of the following programmes:

AP Calculus
AP Statistics
Pre-Calculus
IB Mathematics Level II
Discrete Mathematics
Integrated Mathematics IV
Advanced Functions and Modeling
Fundamentals for College Mathematics
A single foreign language for two semesters
Note that this condition is met by American Sign language
3 Science units
One in a biological or life science
A physical science one
One course in laboratory
Two social science units
One in American history
If you have a GED or your high school transcript does not include any of the aforementioned units, you may provide at least one of the following to complete the minimal requirements for admission:

Complete at least 24 total transferrable semester hours from an accredited college or university, excluding hours given for dual enrollment, AP, IB, or other credit through examination; OR

After receiving your GED or high school equivalency, complete at least 24 total transferrable semester hours from an accredited college or university, excluding hours given for AP, IB, or other credit through examination; OR

By the time you enroll in UNC for the first time, you must be at least 21 years old.

The UNC (University of North Carolina) System requirements are satisfied by these minimal course       prerequisites. You may still apply for admission even if you are unable to meet the minimal      course requirements and cannot provide one of the above alternatives. However, we strongly advise     you to explain in your application why you were unable to complete these course prerequisites.
