Background of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Scholarship

The Alpha Kappa Alpha corporation is where the AKA scholarship got its start. This is the first college-educated black women’s fraternity or sorority in the entire world.

The oldest Greek-letter organization is AKA incorporated. It was established on January 15, 1908. The Howard University campus in Washington, DC, served as the location of the founding. Its history spans more than a century in America and reveals key historical events.

The founders were strange women who were heavily concerned with social issues that were prevalent at the time. These young women appreciated the meaning of freedom and the benefits that came with it after being rescued from slavery. They decided to further their education at reputable universities as a result.

As a result of the chance provided to them, they gained experiences that they then used to give answers to problems within their community.

The necessity for advocacy is rising as the world’s diversity continues to grow. The AKA incorporated consistently follow this path. Without a question, their growing influence has continuously had a good impact on the world. It is clear from their support of higher education, their enduring sisterhood, and the humanitarian work they do.
